How to Cancel Eligible Subscriptions on Venmo
If you want to learn how to cancel subscriptions on Venmo, start by checking whether the recurring service appears in Venmo’s Subscription Manager. Eligible users can view and cancel subscriptions billed through Pay with Venmo or to a brand linked with a Venmo Debit Card. Read Venmo’s Subscription Manager instructions
This guide explains how to stop an eligible recurring merchant charge, what to do when a subscription is missing, and how cancellation differs from reversing a payment that was already sent. It also covers refund tracking and the delay that can occur when a subscription was changed outside Venmo.
Before you begin
Venmo’s Subscription Manager does not cover every recurring payment. You need a Venmo Debit Card in good standing to access subscription details. The manager includes subscriptions billed through Pay with Venmo or to a brand you linked with your Venmo Debit Card. Subscriptions billed to a Venmo Credit Card do not appear there. Check Subscription Manager eligibility
Venmo can view and cancel only eligible subscriptions in the app. Contact the merchant directly if you need to sign up, upgrade or downgrade a plan, or switch billing to a card or bank that is not linked with Venmo. Review Venmo’s subscription-management limits
Before you cancel, review your merchant account, email receipts, and Venmo transaction history. This preparation can help you tell apart similar services or charges. It also gives you useful records if you later need to speak with the merchant or a Venmo Support representative.
| Check | Why it matters | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Merchant or brand name | A charge may use a parent company or billing name | Compare the Venmo entry with the merchant receipt or account page |
| Payment route | Subscription Manager has limited eligibility | Check whether you used Pay with Venmo or a linked Venmo Debit Card brand |
| Recent charge | A cancellation and a posted transaction are separate issues | Compare the amount and date with your merchant billing history |
| Cancellation record | A confirmation can help you track your request | Save the confirmation email, webpage, or screenshot |
| Refund status | Refunds have their own process and timing | Check the original transaction after the merchant confirms a refund |
A new subscription can take up to seven days to appear in Subscription Manager after you sign up. If you cancel with the merchant instead of in Venmo, or move billing to a card or bank outside Venmo, it can also take up to seven days for Venmo to show the change. See Venmo’s display-update timing
If a recurring payment is absent from Subscription Manager, do not rely on the missing listing as proof that the service is canceled. Check the receipt and payment records to identify who bills the subscription. If it was billed directly by the service, use the merchant’s account page or contact the merchant. If the receipt shows Apple or Google Play billing, cancel it through the applicable store account instead: on iPhone, go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions; on Android, open Google Play subscriptions, select the subscription, and tap Cancel subscription. Steps to solve it
Use the following process for an eligible subscription that appears in Venmo’s manager. In most cases, Venmo says you do not need to contact the merchant to cancel an eligible subscription in the app. Read the official Subscription Manager guidance
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Open the Money/Me tab, tap Your linked accounts, open the Manage tab, and select Bills and Subscriptions. Follow Venmo’s current in-app path |
| 2 | Review the merchants or brands listed in Subscription Manager. |
| 3 | Select the subscription you want to manage to view its details. |
| 4 | Tap Cancel Subscription and complete the on-screen process. See Venmo’s cancellation steps |
| 5 | Save the result and review the merchant account if you need independent confirmation. |
| 6 | Handle any refund request with the merchant separately from the cancellation. |
- 1
Go to Bills and Subscriptions in the Venmo app.
Start in the Money/Me tab. Choose Your linked accounts, open Manage, and select Bills and Subscriptions. This is Venmo’s current route to Subscription Manager. Open Subscription Manager using Venmo’s instructions
- 2
Find the merchant or brand you want to stop.
Compare the listing with your latest charge, receipt, or merchant account. A familiar service may use a different billing name. Taking a moment to match the entry can help you avoid canceling the wrong subscription.
- 3
Open the subscription details.
Select the subscription from the list. If you have access to an eligible listing, Venmo’s process lets you view its details and proceed with cancellation. You can also compare the merchant name and payment information with your own records before taking action.
- 4
Tap Cancel Subscription.
Choose Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts in the app. A cancellation completed in Venmo updates its status right away. Complete an eligible cancellation in Venmo
- 5
Understand when the listing may refresh later.
The immediate update rule applies to a cancellation completed in Venmo. A new subscription can take up to seven days to appear after signup. A merchant-side cancellation or a change to a card or bank outside Venmo can take up to seven days to display in Subscription Manager. Review Venmo’s timing details
- 6
Keep proof and use the billing provider’s account when needed.
Save any cancellation confirmation. If a directly billed merchant account still shows an active plan, contact that merchant and ask it to review the account. For a subscription that never appeared in Venmo’s manager, first check the receipt: use the merchant’s account for direct billing, but use the Apple App Store or Google Play subscription controls when the store billed the subscription. - 7
Treat refunds as a separate request.
Canceling a subscription and receiving a refund are different matters. For help canceling an online purchase or seeking a refund, contact the business directly. If the merchant issues a refund credit, Venmo processes it. Read Venmo’s online-purchase refund guidance
Quick cancellation checklist
- Confirm the merchant name, amount, and most recent charge date.
- Check whether the service used Pay with Venmo or a linked Venmo Debit Card brand.
- Confirm that your Venmo Debit Card is in good standing before looking for subscription details. Check Venmo’s access requirements
- Go to Money/Me > Your linked accounts > Manage > Bills and Subscriptions. Use Venmo’s current navigation path
- Select the eligible subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. Follow the official cancellation process
- Save the result from Venmo or the merchant.
- If the service is missing from Subscription Manager, check the receipt to identify the billing provider: use the merchant’s process for direct billing, or the Apple App Store or Google Play subscription controls for store billing. - Allow up to seven days only for a new subscription or changes handled outside Venmo. Read the timing rules
- If the merchant issues a refund credit, track it from the original purchase transaction. Track an online-purchase refund
For example, imagine a video service was paid through Pay with Venmo. Find the service in Bills and Subscriptions, select it, and use Cancel Subscription. Then save the result. If the service does not appear, check the receipt to see who billed it: use the video provider’s account for direct billing, or use the Apple App Store or Google Play subscription controls if the store billed it. Troubleshooting subscription and payment issues
The subscription is not listed
First, review the payment method on the merchant receipt or your Venmo transaction history. A subscription may be missing if it was not billed through Pay with Venmo or to a brand linked with your Venmo Debit Card. Venmo specifically excludes subscriptions billed to a Venmo Credit Card. Review what Subscription Manager includes
If you just signed up, allow up to seven days for the new subscription to appear. If you canceled directly with the merchant or moved payment to a card or bank outside Venmo, allow up to seven days for Venmo to reflect that change. Check Venmo’s update-time explanation
If no listing appears after that, check the receipt to identify the billing provider. Contact the merchant for a directly billed plan. If Apple or Google Play billed the plan, manage it through the applicable store account rather than relying on the merchant: on iPhone, go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions; on Android, open Google Play subscriptions, select the subscription, and tap Cancel subscription. Save any written response or cancellation confirmation with your transaction details. Apple subscription cancellation instructions Google Play subscription cancellation instructions
A charge has already posted
Canceling a subscription is different from trying to cancel a payment already sent through Venmo. Venmo says money is sent to the recipient right away when you send a payment, and there is no way to cancel it once it is sent. Read Venmo’s payment-cancellation policy
Pending payments can have different actions depending on why they are pending. If the recipient has not verified their phone number or email, Venmo says you may be able to take back the payment. If a bank-processing payment has an estimated completion date, it may be cancelable through your bank. For a merchant purchase that is still processing, contact the merchant. Review pending-payment scenarios
If you paid the wrong friend, Venmo advises asking that person to return the money. If you sent money to a stranger, gather details about the intended recipient and contact Venmo Support. See Venmo’s wrong-recipient guidance
Do not describe a merchant renewal as a wrong-recipient payment. Instead, keep practical documentation: the merchant name, date, amount, cancellation confirmation, and messages from the business. This can help the merchant or a Venmo Support representative understand the issue.
You canceled, but a new charge appears
Compare the charge date with your cancellation record and merchant account before drawing a conclusion. The item could be a separate purchase, a charge that was already in process, or a transaction that needs the merchant’s review.
If you recognize the charge, contact the merchant if its account page still shows an active service or if it charged you after confirming a cancellation. For online-purchase cancellation or refund assistance, Venmo directs customers to the business. Venmo does not guarantee a refund. If you do not recognize the charge or suspect fraud, do not wait for merchant support: report unauthorized Venmo-account activity to Venmo as soon as possible. For an unauthorized charge on a linked bank account or card, promptly contact the bank or card issuer; if a Venmo Debit Card is involved, lock it in the Venmo app and report the issue to Venmo. Read Venmo’s refund and cancellation policy Report unauthorized Venmo-account activity Report an unauthorized Venmo Debit Card charge Unknown Venmo charges on a bank statement
Once a merchant issues a refund credit, Venmo says it is credited to the original payment method in most cases. In some situations, the refund may instead be credited to your Venmo account. Processing may take up to five business days. Check refund routing and processing timing
To track an online-purchase refund, open the Me tab, tap Transactions, and select the original purchase. You can also select the transaction that shows the merchant name with “refund” beside it to see where the refund is going. View refund details in Venmo
Keep track of what you want to cancel.
Review your subscriptions in Subpilot and request cancellation help where supported. Some providers require you to act directly; submitting a request does not confirm cancellation.

Can I reverse a payment that I already sent?

Why does Subscription Manager still show an old status?
A cancellation completed in the Venmo app updates its status right away. A new subscription can take up to seven days to appear after signup. Venmo may also need up to seven days to reflect a merchant-side cancellation or a move to a card or bank outside Venmo. Read Venmo’s status-update explanation
During that period, check the merchant’s account page if you need confirmation of the service status. Keep any merchant confirmation with your records.
