PlayStation Plus Refund: Eligibility, Request Steps, and Timing
Under PlayStation's US policy, you can request a refund for the first PlayStation Plus subscription payment within 14 days of signing up. Recurring fees do not qualify under that subscription checklist. A free trial counts toward the same 14-day period, and PlayStation may reduce the refund to reflect use such as online play, monthly-game downloads, or cloud storage.
PlayStation Plus refund eligibility
The US checklist is specific:
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Request is made within 14 days of signing up | Count from the initial subscription transaction |
| Request concerns the first payment | A recurring renewal fee is not eligible under the checklist |
| Free-trial time is included | A 7-day trial leaves 7 days after the first charge in the 14-day period |
| Subscription use may be deducted | Online play, downloaded monthly games, and cloud storage can reduce the amount |
PlayStation notes that local law may provide additional rights and that nothing in its policy replaces those rights. This article summarizes the US process; choose your actual country or region on PlayStation Support before submitting.
Refund and cancellation are different actions
A refund request asks PlayStation to return an eligible initial payment. Canceling the subscription turns off future payments. If you want both outcomes, complete both processes.
The official subscription management guide says cancellation deactivates PlayStation Plus from the next payment date. You can manage it on the web, PS5, PS4, or PlayStation App. Keep the confirmation and note the next payment date.
How to request a PlayStation Plus refund
Use Transaction History
- 1Open PlayStation's official refund request page.
- 2Sign in to the PlayStation account that purchased PlayStation Plus.
- 3Open Transaction History.
- 4Select the eligible initial subscription transaction.
- 5Select Request Refund.
- 6Follow the on-screen instructions and provide accurate information about the purchase and use.
- 7Save the request confirmation and monitor the account email.
If the transaction does not show the refund option, use the PlayStation Support contact route on the same official page. Do not submit a game or DLC refund form for the PlayStation Plus subscription; PlayStation applies different checklists to different purchase types.
Cancel future renewal online
- 1Sign in to PlayStation Account Management.
- 2Select Subscription.
- 3Select PlayStation Plus.
- 4Select Cancel below the subscription.
- 5Verify the next payment is off and save the displayed expiration date.
On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions, choose PlayStation Plus, then Cancel Subscription. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Subscriptions.
What to expect after approval
PlayStation says a refund may take 30 to 60 days. Where possible, it sends the money to the original payment method. If that is not possible—for example, with certain payment methods or wallet-fund vouchers—the amount may be credited to the PlayStation wallet instead.
If the confirmation says the refund is going to a payment method but nothing arrives, check the wallet balance as well because PlayStation may have been unable to credit the original method. Then contact the payment provider or PlayStation Support as directed in the official FAQ.
Common problems and troubleshooting
The payment was a renewal
PlayStation's US subscription checklist covers the first payment, not a recurring fee. Cancel the plan so it does not renew again. If local law provides another right or the charge resulted from an error, contact PlayStation Support with the transaction details.
A free trial makes the date confusing
Count from the day you signed up for the trial, not only from the day money was charged. PlayStation's example says a 7-day trial uses half of the 14-day cancellation period, leaving another 7 days after payment.
The refund amount is lower than the payment
PlayStation may reduce it based on use of the subscription. Its examples include playing online, downloading monthly games, and using cloud storage. The account's activity after sign-up can therefore affect the final amount.
The transaction is not visible
Check that you signed in to the account that made the purchase and set the correct Transaction History date range. Search the receipt email for the Online ID and transaction number. A different family account may own the payment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I refund a PlayStation Plus renewal?
Not under the standard US subscription checklist, which is limited to the first payment. Local law or a genuine billing error may create a separate support issue.
Does a PlayStation Plus free trial reset the 14-day window?
No. Trial time is included in the 14 days counted from sign-up.
Can using PlayStation Plus reduce the refund?
Yes. PlayStation may deduct for use, including online play, monthly-game downloads, or cloud storage.
How long does a PlayStation refund take?
PlayStation says 30 to 60 days. It uses the original payment method where possible and may credit the PlayStation wallet otherwise.
