How to Cancel an Avast Subscription

This guide explains how to cancel an Avast subscription renewal when Avast billed you directly or when a third party, such as Google Play, processed the purchase. First, identify the seller that charged you. Then use that seller’s cancellation process. Stopping automatic renewal usually prevents another charge, but it may not end access immediately because you can normally use the product for the period already paid. Avast’s cancellation and refund policy explains the effect of stopping renewal for direct Avast purchases.

Use this page if you want to avoid a future renewal charge, check a canceled subscription, or request a refund after a charge. Keep the original purchase email, billing record, and account email available. These details can help you identify the right product and determine whether Avast, Google Play, or another seller handled the payment.

Steps to solve it

Start by reviewing your receipt, email confirmation, or card statement. Use the billing record to identify whether Avast billed you directly or whether a third party processed the purchase. If a third party billed you, review that seller’s cancellation and refund terms instead of assuming your Avast account can manage the subscription. Read Avast’s policy on direct and third-party purchases.

Use this checklist to follow the correct route:

What to check What to do
The purchase was billed directly by Avast Sign in to the Avast account used for purchase, then open My Account and select My Subscriptions. Choose Cancel Renewal or Manage Subscriptions for the relevant subscription and follow the on-screen instructions before the billing date. Avast cancellation instructions
The receipt identifies Google Play Open Google Play using the Google Account that made the purchase. Go to subscriptions, select the Avast subscription, and choose the cancellation option. Google Play subscription instructions
You cannot identify the seller Match the product name, charge amount, billing date, and purchase email before changing any subscription setting.
You want to prevent only the next charge Cancel automatic renewal before the billing date or the next renewal date shown by the seller. For direct Avast subscriptions, Avast says to cancel before the billing date. Avast’s renewal policy
You want a refund after a charge Use the refund process for the seller that billed you. Avast’s policy applies to direct Avast purchases, while Google Play and other sellers may use different rules. Avast refund policy

For a direct Avast purchase, sign in to the account associated with the subscription. Select My Account, then My Subscriptions. Find the relevant subscription and select Cancel Renewal or Manage Subscriptions. Complete the remaining prompts before the billing date. Avast says the account update can take up to 24 hours to appear, and its cancellation confirmation email can take 24 to 48 hours. Review Avast’s current cancellation process

For a Google Play purchase, use Google Play rather than uninstalling the Avast app. Google Play subscriptions are charged at the start of each billing cycle unless you unsubscribe. Removing an app from a phone or tablet does not cancel its Google Play subscription. See Google Play’s official guidance

After you submit the cancellation, keep the confirmation screen or email. It can document that you submitted or completed the request. Then return to the subscription page and check the current status and end date. A subscription may remain visible after cancellation because access can continue until the end of the paid period.

Choosing the right cancellation and refund path

The payment route matters more than the device where Avast is installed. For example, an Avast product installed on a phone may still have been purchased through an Avast website, Google Play, or another seller. Do not rely on the device alone to decide where to cancel.

If your situation is… Then do this
You have an Avast order email or billing record Check whether it identifies Avast as the billing seller. If Avast billed you directly, use the Avast account connected to the purchase. Avast policy
Your purchase receipt identifies Google Play Cancel in the Google Account that made the purchase. Google Play Help
You use several Google Accounts Check each relevant Google Account’s subscriptions area until you find the matching Avast listing.
You have already been charged Determine who billed the charge before requesting a refund. Direct Avast purchases follow Avast’s policy; third-party-billed purchases follow the seller’s process. Avast refund terms
You cannot find a subscription Search your email for the product name, “Avast,” “Google Play,” “order,” “renewal,” or the charge amount. Then compare the receipt against the payment record.

If a third party billed the purchase, review the cancellation and refund terms supplied by that seller and use the process it specifies. Do not assume that signing in to an Avast account will cancel or refund a third-party-billed purchase. Read Avast’s third-party billing guidance

Before making changes, verify the plan name, billing amount, account email, and renewal date. This reduces the risk of canceling a different Avast product while leaving the active subscription unchanged. It is especially useful if you have more than one Avast product, multiple email addresses, or subscriptions purchased for different household members.

Stopping renewal is different from ending a subscription contract and requesting a refund. For a direct Avast subscription, stopping automatic renewal prevents another renewal charge and normally lets you keep access through the paid period. A separate request to cancel the subscription contract and seek a refund may change a paid subscription to a free subscription where that option applies. Avast’s policy distinguishes renewal cancellation from contract cancellation

Troubleshooting cancellation problems

If you cannot sign in to an Avast account, begin with the email address that received the original order confirmation. A billing email may differ from the address you use every day. Search old inboxes and spam folders for purchase confirmations, renewal notices, or product keys.

If no subscription appears in the Avast account, do not assume there will be no renewal. The purchase may be associated with another email address, an older Avast account, a work account, or a family member’s account. It may also have been billed through Google Play or another seller. Confirm the seller through the billing record before attempting another cancellation route. Avast’s policy explains that third-party purchases can have different terms

If you canceled direct Avast renewal but still have access, that does not necessarily mean the cancellation failed. Avast says that stopping automatic renewal allows use of the subscription through the period already paid. The subscription ends after that period, and Avast says no further renewal charge will be made. See the effects of stopping automatic renewal

If Google Play still lists the subscription after you cancel, check the subscription status and renewal information in the same Google Account used for purchase. A canceled Google Play subscription can remain listed and usable for the time already paid. Confirm that it shows as canceled and that no further renewal is scheduled. Google Play’s cancellation guidance

Refund eligibility is separate from stopping renewal. Avast’s published refund policy applies to consumer purchases made directly from Avast. For those direct purchases, annual subscriptions and eligible annual renewal charges generally have a 30-day full-refund window. An initial monthly purchase generally has a 14-day window. Avast also publishes separate provisions for trials and some locations, so country-specific terms can differ. Third-party-billed purchases may follow the seller’s own refund rules. Check Avast’s current refund terms

Avoid these common mistakes:

  • Waiting until after the billing date without checking whether a new charge has already posted.
  • Uninstalling Avast and assuming billing has stopped.
  • Signing into a different Google Account from the one used to buy the subscription.
  • Requesting a direct-Avast refund without retaining an order number, product serial number, or product key.
  • Treating a one-time purchase as though it were an automatically renewing subscription.
  • Canceling a similarly named product without matching the billing amount and renewal date first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does canceling Avast delete the software?

No. Stopping automatic renewal and removing software are different actions. For a direct Avast subscription, stopping renewal prevents another renewal charge and normally allows access through the paid period. A separate request to cancel the subscription contract and seek a refund may convert a paid subscription to a free subscription where applicable. Avast’s cancellation policy

Can I cancel an Avast subscription through Google Play?

Use Google Play if Google Play processed the purchase. Open the subscriptions area in the Google Account used to buy Avast, select the listed subscription, and follow Google Play’s cancellation steps. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. Google Play subscription instructions

Will I get a refund after canceling?

Not automatically. Refund eligibility depends on the seller, subscription type, purchase timing, and applicable terms. Avast’s refund policy applies to direct Avast purchases, while Google Play and other third-party sellers may have their own refund rules. Review Avast’s refund policy

Why was I charged after removing Avast from my phone?

Removing the app does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Check the subscriptions section of the Google Account that made the purchase, then cancel any active Avast renewal shown there. Google Play confirms that uninstalling does not cancel subscriptions
