The trial includes A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers, with 18 playable jobs. Duty Support lets players complete supported main-story dungeons with NPC allies. The official signup flow creates a Square Enix account and provides installation instructions.

Eligibility and account limits

Square Enix permits one trial account per eligible Square Enix account. An account previously registered with a version of the game is not eligible. Purchasing any version ends trial eligibility on all platforms.

Trial accounts can create up to eight characters per physical data center and hold up to 300,000 gil. They cannot use shout, yell or tell chat, the market board, player trading, retainers or outgoing moogle letters. They cannot create or join Free Companies.

Players may join invited parties or use Duty Finder, but cannot assemble their own parties. They may join invited Linkshells and Cross-world Linkshells but cannot create them. PvP and Ultimate Raids are unavailable. The Companion app and official forums are also unavailable to trial accounts.

Upgrading an existing character

Square Enix says trial characters can be retained when upgrading. For Windows, Steam or Mac, purchase a registration code and sign in to Mog Station with the trial account, then use Transfer to Full Game.

Windows and Steam registration codes are not interchangeable. A Steam trial must be upgraded with a Steam code. Console upgrades follow the registration prompts when the purchased game launches on the account used for the trial.
