Scribd cancel subscription: Help, steps, and troubleshooting

To stop future Scribd charges, first identify who processed the purchase. Check your receipt, bank statement, or subscription screen to determine whether Scribd billed you directly or whether the purchase came through Apple App Store or Google Play. The correct cancellation route depends on that billing source.

For a Scribd-billed paid subscription, cancel any day before the displayed renewal date to avoid another charge. You keep access through the last day of the paid billing period. Free trials work differently: Scribd says access ends immediately when you cancel. Apple App Store and Google Play cancellations should be completed at least 24 hours before renewal. Read Scribd’s cancellation instructions

This guide explains how to cancel, what confirmation to expect, when access ends, how refunds work, and what to do if an account still appears active. Before you begin, keep your account email, recent receipt, payment date, and screenshots available. Those records can help if you need to contact Scribd, Apple, or Google later.

Decision framework

Use the payment source, not the device where you read documents, to select the right cancellation method. A purchase receipt or transaction description is often the fastest way to find the billing route.

  • If Scribd bills you directly, sign in to the account used for purchase and use Scribd’s subscription controls.
  • If Apple App Store bills you, cancel through Apple subscription settings. Cancelling on Scribd’s website does not stop Apple-managed billing.
  • If Google Play bills you, use Google Play’s subscription controls instead of Scribd’s website.
  • If you have a free trial, finish any needed reading first. Access ends immediately when you cancel, even if the displayed trial conversion date is later.
  • If you see a pause offer, read it carefully. A Scribd pause is not cancellation. It can freeze billing for 4 or 12 weeks, then billing restarts automatically.
  • If you want a refund, make a separate request after checking the refund rules and the platform that processed payment.
  • If you cannot sign in, try to recover the original account before opening a new account or disputing a charge.

Scribd specifically states that cancelling on its website does not stop subscriptions purchased through Apple App Store or Google Play. Check the merchant name, receipt, and upcoming renewal date before making changes. See Scribd’s billing-source guidance

Steps to solve it

Start by signing in with the email address, social login, or account credentials used when you purchased the subscription. Review the plan details and upcoming billing date before cancelling. Take a screenshot when the renewal date is close or when the billing source is unclear.

Payment source Where to cancel What to check afterward What to save
Scribd direct billing Scribd account subscription controls Subscription end date and cancellation confirmation Final screen, confirmation email, renewal date
Apple App Store Apple subscription settings Apple cancellation status and end date Screenshot and purchase receipt
Google Play Google Play subscription settings Google Play status and renewal setting Screenshot and order record
Venmo-linked Scribd payment Disconnect Scribd in Venmo, or use Scribd controls if available Charges should stop after disconnection Venmo payment record and Scribd screen

For a Scribd-billed subscription, use the website path Your account > Manage Subscription beside Plan details > Cancel subscription. Follow every prompt until Scribd shows the successful cancellation page with the subscription end date. Scribd says normal website cancellations also generate a confirmation email. Follow the official Scribd cancellation steps

For Apple billing, open Settings on an iPhone or iPad, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, select Scribd, and tap Cancel Subscription. For Google Play billing, open the Google Play app, tap the profile icon, choose Payments & subscriptions, select Subscriptions, choose Scribd, and tap Cancel subscription. Allow at least 24 hours before renewal when cancelling through Apple or Google. Review Scribd’s Apple and Google instructions

For purchases made through Apple App Store or Google Play, those platforms control cancellation and refund handling. For subscriptions billed by Scribd, use Scribd’s account cancellation route. Keep records from the platform that processed the charge. Read the official refund routing rules

After completing cancellation, record the cancellation date, access end date, billing source, and payment method. Save the final confirmation screen, relevant receipt, and any support case number. These details help you compare a later charge with your cancellation records.

Billing, access, and refunds

Cancelling normally stops the next renewal rather than ending paid access immediately. For a paid Scribd subscription, access continues through the last day of the current billing period. A free trial is the important exception: Scribd says trial access ends immediately after cancellation. Check the displayed end date instead of assuming the result. Check Scribd’s access timing details

A cancellation does not automatically create a refund. Scribd says it does not refund a billing period when the subscription was actively used during that period. It also does not provide partial or prorated refunds for unused time. Read Scribd’s refund eligibility rules

For a Scribd or Slideshare refund request, contact Scribd within 30 days of the charge. Explain why you are requesting a refund. Include the account email address or username, charge amount or order number, and payment-method details needed to locate the transaction. Avoid posting complete payment information in public messages or screenshots. A request may qualify only when it meets Scribd’s listed conditions. See the refund request requirements

Apple handles App Store refunds, while Google handles Google Play refunds. Request a refund through the applicable store when that store processed the payment. Scribd also says that a Google Play refund ends the subscription. If you want to retain the subscription, ask Scribd about a credit instead. Review store-managed refund guidance

Subscribers in the EU and UK can withdraw from a subscription within 14 days of purchase and receive a full refund, regardless of the reason, according to Scribd’s policy. Read Scribd’s EU and UK withdrawal information

Cancellation stops billing, but it does not delete the account. Scribd says uploaded and saved items remain in the account after a paid subscription ends. Deleting an account removes the account and everything in it. If you need offline access, plan before cancelling because Scribd says offline access ends after the paid subscription ends. See Scribd’s account and access notes

Venmo can create a confusing exception. Disconnecting Scribd in the Venmo app stops charges and effectively cancels the subscription. Scribd says you will not receive a cancellation email in this situation. The account may appear active until the renewal date passes, and “Scribd, Inc.” may remain under Venmo Connected Businesses. Read the Venmo cancellation details

To avoid an unexpected renewal, do not wait until the last few hours before the payment date. Confirm the billing source, complete cancellation through that source, and save proof immediately. Review the subscription status again near the former renewal date, especially if you changed devices, payment methods, or account logins.

If a new charge appears after you cancelled, compare the merchant name, amount, and date with your saved confirmation and receipt. Check whether it represents an earlier renewal, a different account, or an Apple or Google purchase. For a Scribd-billed charge, use Scribd’s refund rules and contact process. For an App Store or Google Play charge, follow that store’s refund route. Review Scribd’s charge and refund guidance

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel Scribd at any time?

You can cancel a Scribd-billed paid subscription any day before its renewal date to prevent the next charge. You retain paid access through the billing period’s last day. Apple and Google cancellations should be made at least 24 hours before renewal. Free trials end immediately after cancellation. Read the timing rules

Why does my account still show an active membership?

You may still have access through the end of a paid billing period. For a normal Scribd website cancellation, look for the successful cancellation page, end date, and confirmation email. A Venmo disconnection is different: no cancellation email is sent, and the account can appear active until the renewal date passes. See Scribd’s confirmation guidance

What information do I need for a refund request?

Provide your account email address or username, the charge amount or order number, payment-method details, and a reason for the request. Contact Scribd within 30 days for Scribd or Slideshare refund requests. Apple and Google purchases require requests through the applicable store. Read the official refund process

How can I avoid an unexpected charge?

Identify the billing source, cancel through that source, and save proof of the completed action. Check the cancellation status near the former renewal date. If a new charge appears, compare its merchant name, amount, and date with your saved records before reporting it. Store-managed purchases must be handled through Apple or Google rather than Scribd’s website. See Scribd’s billing guidance

If you manage several recurring services, Subpilot subscription management is a first-party page for subscription management and cancellation tracking. Check its current integrations, pricing, and platform support before relying on it for a specific account.
